Establishing by trumping Contract : 7
The bidding: South opens and receives the following
wonderful information: 16 H points in a distribution: 3 - 2 - 5 -3. He
adds this to his 17 H points and adds 3 distribution points (2 in hand
and 1 opposite) + 1 for the ninth fit in Spades, i.e. a total of 37 DH
points, just what is needed to bid 7 The declarer must diagnose one loser in Clubs and one in Hearts; you must ask him after this "appraisal" where and how he is going to find the solution to his problem: don't let him play before he has said that he can discard a Heart in hand on a Diamond in dummy and that it is possible to try the Queen of Clubs finesse. Those who fail will have either blocked themselves in Diamonds (perhaps they have forgotten "high and short"? or they will not have seen that they could establish the fifth Diamond in dummy. Make them re-play the deal whilst telling them without insisting that the suit of Diamonds gives them an automatic discard for one of the three losers (advice 16.4) but that they are 99% certain (advice 16.5) that the last Diamond in dummy can supply the second necessary discard … So good "timing": take the lead, draw trumps,
draw the King, Ace and Queen of Hearts (discard of the 6 of Hearts), trump
the 5 of Diamonds, get back into dummy by one of the two Aces and make
the last established Diamond (advice 16.6).
